it is unknown what happend to le trung, but as for the BRAINS software:

I believe it was based on a simple machine code algorithm.

a user command would shift the machine code, into a certain block of code/specialized class to handle a specific task.
whether or not le could code AI into that can only be speculated, but it does remind me a lot of the alexa device.

the problem I see with machine code is there is no free will, no goal system no volition or charisma from the AI, unless Trung
saw a way around it.

he was a speedy coder, and I wish we code dev together, but like Terry Davis he also ignored my messages.

I was very interested in this project. He actually posted a youtube video recently of a dancing AI. So he's alive. I think he said he ran out of money and went to medical school to become a doctor. So that ended his robotics pursuits I guess. I wonder if he will ever come back to robotics. I know doctors are busy.

I think he is probably imprisoned.
His URL keeps renewing so his CC must be valid meaning he is alive.
But he has not posted anywhere in like 14 years.

he posted a video 5 years ago on his youtube and the previous was 12 years ago. So he had enough nostalgia to post on his abandoned channel. And like you said he's paying that hosting bill so I think he still cares about the legacy. Those could be clues he might one day come back.
